After meeting in 2010 and by pure chance, starting work for the NHS on the same day in 2013, Jodie and Emily grew closer and became a couple in 2014. Feeling as though they "belonged" together, Emily told Jodie that they'd be getting married at some point. Happily she agreed with Emily; they bought engagement rings, Jodie did a mock proposal in their sitting room, complete with candles and champagne and three years later, they're married and looking forward to the next chapter of their lives. Here's their wedding story...
We began our wedding planning by booking the venue and after searching the internet for gay friendly wedding venues, we found Ocean Kave and booked a viewing. It was nicely secluded with the most perfect view of the coast and we fell in love with it immediately!
Jodie and I both love music and decided to base our wedding around the '50s era. We wanted the day to be relaxed and fun for all of our guests, avoiding the usual traditions. We let our guests know about our theme and said they were welcome to embrace it with a 50s flourish in their outfits if they wanted to - and most of them did!
All of our decorations were beautifully made by family and friends, it gave the day such a personal feel.
We had 80 guests during the day and invited the maximum amount of 120 in the evening, the venue was a perfect size for this amount of people.
Our ceremony was held in the candlelit Kave which felt so special and intimate, unfortunately on the day the weather was horrendous and our plan of meeting outside and walking in together was just not achievable, the staff had it all under control and came up with a plan B which worked perfectly. This was so helpful as we were both struggling with nerves!
Our reception was held in the sunset rooms which is a short walk away from the Kave, we huddled inside to get away from the rain and everyone happily sat and chatted to each other on their tables until our gorgeous BBQ food was ready, this was a perfect choice for us as we did not want a traditional sit down meal.
Our local ice-cream van arrived to serve desert and our guests also had a cupcake each which were beautifully made by my sister.
We had requested a playlist from our DJ that went from the 50’s up through each era to finish with current music, this worked really well and our guests loved it!
The venue and all of the staff were just incredible. There is nothing that we would change about our wedding day, even the weather made it what it was!
