Wedding Candles & Diffusers Reviews

Planning on incorporating fragrance into your wedding? We’ve tried and tested a selection of well known (and lesser so) candles and diffusers to help you decide which ones to choose to scent your wedding. It was a tough job, but someone had to do it…

“There is nothing more wonderful than being remembered for a perfume” – Roja Dove.”   For the purpose of these tests, candles were burned for one hour and then their flames extinguished.

Review: Sooothing and softly zesty in its scent, the lime and bay fragrances are perfectly matched to create a feeling of vitalic warmth – the kind you feel on the very first hot day of summer. Its burns evenly, permeates the room swiftly and roundly and lasts for up to two hours once its flame has been extinguished. We love.

Review: Delicate, sweet and incredibly fragrant without being overwhelming, this was the candle scent chosen by Kate Middleton to burn during her royal wedding to Prince William at Westminster Abbey, and it’s easy to understand why. It is exquisite. And permeates the space brilliantly. Compared with all the candles we’ve tested, this one wins hands down. Plus, you the lid can be engraved – perfect for a high-end wedding.

Burn time: 45 hours

Laundry Day Candle by Yorkshire Rose Candles

Product: Laundry Day Candle by Yorkshire Rose

Packaging: 3 out of 5 – jam jar-style pot with screw-top lid and enormous label.
Price: £7.50
Review Rating: 4 out of 5
Review: I don’t know what I was expecting, but for some reason, I wasn’t expecting it to smell so much like freshly washed laundry. But it does. Exactly like it. And it has a built in odour eliminator, which is brilliant. When first lit, the aroma is pungent and sherbety, quickly fills the room, and can still be detected for two hours after the flame has been extinguished. It’s a great scent for the house ,but choose one of their other candles for a wedding. At £7.50 per pot, it’s more affordable than the luxury brands, but just as effective. What’s more, they offer a personalised labelling service for weddings: nice touch.

Ginger Lily and Mandarin Grace Cole Candle

Product: Ginger Lily and Mandarin by Grace Cole

Packaging: 2 out of 5 – looks great at first glance, but on closer inspection it’s clear that corners have been cut.
Price: £20.00
Review Rating: 2 out of 5
Review: The candle was loose in the glass and fell out when I tipped it upside down  – something none of the other candles did). The packaging comes apart easily and although the fragrance is lovely it’s very feint. As for filling a room with scent, it really does falls short here, too, not only taking far longer to diffuse than all of the other candles tested, but in its overall strength. An hour after the candle’s been put out, the scent still remains, but it’s barely there at all.  With a little more attention to detail on upgrading the packaging and a bit more work on strengthening the fragrance, Grace Cole candles could be really good.

Burn time: up to 35 hours.

Vanilla Blush and Peony Grace Cole Candle

Product: Vanilla Blush and Peony by Grace Cole

Packaging: 2 out of 5 – although has the trademark design of a luxury brand, close up it’s falling apart.
Price: £20.00
Review Rating: 3 out of 5
Review: All the right ingredients are there, it just needs a little more polish and leaves you feeling that there have been some budget-saving shortcuts made here. Looking inside the packaging, you can actually see brown cardboard where the luxury-looking overlay hasn’t been adequately glued. Looks are, of course, superficial, but in retail, they’re important. The aroma, on the other hand, is very pleasant indeed. Delicately floral with a sweet (but not overly so) infusion of vanilla, it’s a fragrance I rather enjoyed. After an hour of burning, the fragrance has diffused throughout the room but only very faintly.

Burn time: up to 35 hours

Packaging: 2 out of 5 – looks good until you get up close.

Review: Unlike the Grace Cole Vanilla Blush and Peony candle, the diffuser scent is overwhelming. Yes it’s quick to diffuse, but the fragrance is too sickly sweet and pungent for our taste.

Review: Unfortunately this was not a scent I warmed to. Unlike its candle nemesis, its aroma is incredibly strong and quite chemically. Not one I would recommend.

Review: Having tested the Grace Cole diffusers before Jo Malone, I was a little apprehensive about testing another diffuser. Oh how wrong I was. Just as delicately aromatic as the candle, the Orange Blossom diffuser is wonderfully floral in all the right ways. It fills the room quickly and effectively, and is a fragrance I want to enjoy over and over again.
