The story of Chateau de Challain is as much a fairytale as its looks; built as a private country residence in 1854, the chateau was once the jewel of Anjoy. After years of neglect, it was left tired and broken until it stole the hearts of the Nicholsons just over a decade ago. Shortly after the Nicholsons made an offer, they became the new owners of Chateau de Challain and began a painstaking restoration project to return the chateau to its former glory.

You can't escape the feeling of romance and history. Today Chateau de Challain is one of the most magical castles you could wish to visit. Standing tall, and gleaming white, its majesty casts a spell over everyone who visits - for weddings, honeymoons, parties and more.

Manager and owner of Chateau de Challain, Cynthia, loves attention to detail - whether you are planning to experience the luxury of a castle wedding at Chateau de Challain, whether you plan to honeymoon here, or both, she will take care to make your time one you will always cherish. From exquisite dining experiences to events and stays that will take your breath away, Cynthia can manage every aspect of your stay at the Chateau.

    LOCATION & ACTIVITIES

Challain la Potherie is a village in a commune centred on the town of Cande in the Maine-et-Loire department in western France. The region of Anjou is one of the most diverse in France.

    The Loire in Anjou

Anjou owes almost everything to its river - the Loire, which stretches some 80 miles. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Loire is the last untamed river of Europe, and is at its most beautiful in Anjoy.

    Wine

The Coteaux du Layon vineyards stretch across the hillsides; originally planted by monks, the sweet, golden wine produced was once drunk by the crowned heads of Europe, and still graces the tables of discerning drinkers today. Why not take a tour of the vineyards and learn about the wines made, during your stay.

    FACILITIES

Luxury antique and silk furnishings - all beautifully curated.

Rooms - you can't escape the feeling of romance and history as you enter one of the 13 bedrooms in the castle. Each room is individually decorated with silk furnishings, antiques and thoughtful extra touches.

The newest addition to the Chateau's guest accommodation is the magnificent Gate House - recently restored and available as a self contained holiday let. It includes two bedrooms, a bathroom with shower, a kitchen, a working fire place and your own "al fresco" dining area.
