In a Nutshell
Once considered The Wall Street of London, Lombard Street’s roots lie deep in banking history. Culture and literary lovers wanting a grand backdrop for their perfect London city wedding adore 1 Lombard Street (a former bank), not just for its immaculate and elegant space, but because of its history…
Located in the heart of the City of London, it is a Grade II-listed building dating back to 1776 when it housed the Smith, Payne & Smith bank, and regularly saw a young Charles Dickens frequent it to see his first love, Maria Beadnell, whose father was a bank manager there.
The bank closed its doors in 1998 and its beautiful Banking Hall was converted into the fantastic dining and event space, that has become well known for its food and dining menus. Able to host wedding receptions of anything from 60-400 guests, its versatility means you can style it as you wish and if you celebrate your wedding at the weekend when the Square Mile is practically deserted the City becomes your very own playground.
The Team
The team at 1 Lombard Street are friendly and experienced; better still, they love what they do and have a list of recommended suppliers, should you need any suggestions, but are equally happy for you to use your own:
Giving people a day to remember and being a part of it is a real honour. We personalise each event and wedding reception to suit the couple's needs and have hosted many gay wedding receptions here always receiving great feedback. We have such a versatile space here and think it is the perfect setting to host a celebration! Aimi Gibbons, Wedding Co-ordinator, 1 Lombard Street
